2nd Story

Whatever needs to move the business forward

Sometimes you need a fresh view of the whole business. Sometimes you know exactly what needs fixing. Either way, we help turn the issue into a clear piece of work — and then help deliver it.

Start broad, or start specific

A 2nd Story engagement can begin with a whole-of-business health check, a specific problem or opportunity, or a project that needs experienced hands around it.

We shape the work around the business rather than asking the business to fit our model.

2nd Story — how engagements start

People & Culture

Build a team that’s engaged, clear on their role, and set up to grow with the business — not just get through it.

  • Organisation and role design
  • People policies, onboarding and performance foundations
  • Employee engagement and experience
  • Leadership and accountability rhythms

Risk & Business Foundations

The governance and risk work that protects the business as it grows, without burying it in process.

  • Governance and risk frameworks
  • Regulatory assessments
  • Compliance readiness and core documentation
  • Coordination with specialist legal, finance or technical advisers when needed

The point: This is not intended to be an exhaustive service menu. It shows the breadth of problems 2nd Story can help solve. The starting question is always: "What does the business need now?"

What this looks like in practice

When it all comes together

Most engagements touch two or three of the areas above. Here’s one that touched all of them.

Client snapshot

ARP Surveyors — Registered land & building surveyors, Sutherland Shire and South Coast, NSW

The situation

ARP had just merged with another established surveying practice, bringing two client bases, two ways of working, and years of accumulated habits under one roof almost overnight. The combined business had real strength — over 50 years of experience between the two practices — but nothing had been built to run as one business yet. Pricing, workflows, systems and people processes were still living in two separate heads, not one shared structure.

The engagement

A 12-week, whole-of-business remit: review the business, its commercials, its workflows and systems, and its foundations, then build — and deliver — a plan for a stronger base to grow from.

Brand & customer experience

Built a new website that actually stands out in a sector where most competitors look identical, and rebuilt every client-facing workflow so the customer is kept properly informed from first enquiry onward, not just at the start and the invoice.

Operations & systems

Implemented a new operating system covering the full job lifecycle, enquiry through to invoice, replacing two separate informal tracking methods with one system the whole team actually uses.

Commercial foundations

Reviewed and rebuilt the pricing framework, and improved margins by fixing workflow efficiency and work allocation, not simply by raising prices.

People foundations

Set up employment conditions, induction material, and a simplified training system, so onboarding and consistency no longer depended on which side of the merger someone came from.

Monthly revenue has doubled, with an expected annual revenue increase of around 50% — achieved alongside healthy profit margins, not at the expense of them.

This is what a Defined Project can look like.

Every engagement starts with what the business actually needs — this one happened to need all four areas at once.
